This anthology highlights the distinctive experiences, challenges, and triumphs of Black women within the field of education. This book aims to document and celebrate their brilliance, persistence, and significant contributions throughout history and in modern contexts. By sharing their stories, insights, and strategies for success, the book seeks to inspire and empower both aspiring and established Black women educators, while also fostering a broader understanding and appreciation of the vital role Black women play in shaping the future of education and society.
About the Author
Dr. Brenda Stuart-Howell is an occupational therapist, published author, and an adjunct college professor with over 10 years of experience in education. Currently, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy degree from the University of Central Arkansas at Conway (UCA), a Master of Occupational Therapy degree from UCA, and a doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Chatham University. She is a founding member of the Student Caucus for Diversity in Occupational Therapy, a spin off of the National Black Caucus of Occupational Therapy and a past Roster of Accreditation Evaluator for the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®) of the American Occupational Therapy Association. She is the only Black and also the first Occupational Therapist in her town to ever receive a doctorate in the field. Brenda’s personal mission is to cultivate future occupational therapy clinicians towards unlocking their full potential as a practitioner to provide exceptional occupational therapy services at large. Brenda is a wife, mom, business owner, entrepreneur, and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
